Harry Styles Holds at No. 1 as Holiday Albums Flood the Chart - The New York Times

Harry Styles holds the top spot on Billboard’s latest album chart, as Christmas streaming sent seasonal collections by Michael Bublé, Mariah Carey and even Nat King Cole to the Top 10.

Styles’s “Fine Line” had the equivalent of 89,000 sales in the United States in its second week at No. 1, according to Nielsen. That is an 81 percent drop from the album’s opening, when it was credited with 478,000 sales — helped by retail bundle deals, as many big albums are these days, but also by healthy streaming numbers and a strong week of vinyl sales.

In its second week out, “Fine Line” sold 47,000 copies as a complete package, and its songs were streamed 55 million times.

Bublé’s “Christmas,” a seasonal hit each year since it was released in 2011, landed at No. 2 with the equivalent of 77,000 sales. Carey’s “Merry Christmas,” including her modern classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” — which finally made it to No. 1 on the singles chart this month after 25 years — is No. 4. Nielsen’s accounting week for music sales ended on Thursday, the day after Christmas.

Other holiday albums in the Top 10 include “The Best of Pentatonix Christmas,” by the ever-chipper a cappella group Pentatonix, at No. 7, and Cole’s “The Christmas Song,” from 1963 — which includes his classic title track — at No. 8. Most of these holiday albums owed their high chart positions to streaming. By sales alone, Bublé would have ranked No. 16, Carey No. 20 and Cole No. 81.

Also this week, Roddy Ricch’s “Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial,” a chart-topper two weeks ago, holds at No. 3, and Billie Eilish’s “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” is No. 5.
