Christmas comes to Kewaunee with old-fashioned, German-style Christkindlmarkt - Green Bay Press Gazette

KEWAUNEE - The holiday spirit, and an early opportunity for Christmas shopping, come to the city this weekend when the Kewaunee Area Chamber of Commerce holds its 13th annual Christkindlmarkt from Friday through Saturday, Nov. 22 and 23.

One highlight of the festivities is the Craft Market, an old-fashioned, German-style Christmas market. Another is the Friday Holiday Lights Parade through downtown Kewaunee.

Open from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, the market offers visitors the chance to browse and shop for gift items from vendors offering clothing and accessories, unique ceramic items, homemade foods and more.

For those getting hungry while checking out the items, a German pork meal will be available during market hours Friday and starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Other types of foods and refreshments also are for sale.

And, Santa Claus will be on hand after his appearance in Friday's parade and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Children can meet him, and take part in children's holiday activities.

The market takes place at Lakehaven Hall, 96 Ellis St. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday, heading through downtown along Ellis Street.

Visitors also can take part in the Kewaunee County Christmas Stroll this weekend and next. Twenty-five businesses — 12 in Kewaunee, seven in Algoma and six in Luxemburg — will host shoppers and stamp their "passports," and those who get between eight and 20 stamps are entered in drawings to win cash prizes ranging from $25 to $200. The more stamps collected, the bigger the potential prize. Visitors also can register to win a $25 gift certificate at each business.

Christmas Stroll hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 22, 23, 29 and 30.
