EDMONTON, Alberta — Pekka Rinne has nothing on Filip Forsberg.
Five days after Rinne became the 12th goalie in NHL history to score a goal - and just the eighth do it with his stick - Forsberg on Tuesday became the second player in league history to score a lacrosse-style goal.
The Predators forward joined Carolina winger Andrei Svechnikov - who has done it twice this season - on that list.
Forsberg's stick doubled as a magic wand Tuesday when he skated behind the net, lifted the puck onto the blade of his stick, came around the other side of unsuspecting Oilers goalie Mike Smith and whipped in a lacrosse-style goal under the Smith's left arm.
That type of score had been a goal of Forsberg's for a while. He'd sometimes rehearse the move during practice, when his stick moves regularly wow teammates.
Mike Legg made the lacrosse move famous when he pulled off the shot against the University of Minnesota during the 1996 NCAA tournament while playing for Michigan.
Svechnikov first accomplished the feat Oct. 29 against the Flames. He did it again Dec. 17 against the Jets.
Forsberg tied the score 1-1, just 1 minutes, 41 seconds after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave the home team on the board. Colin Blackwell gave the Predators a 2-1 lead at 15:41 of the first before Leon Draisaitl tied it 2-2 with a power-play goal late in the first.
Forsberg wasn't done showing off his stickwork, though.
With about 10:30 left in the second, and his team freshly trailing 3-2, Forsberg slapped a shot between his legs and on goal as two Oilers surrounded him. Smith stopped that one, though.
With 3:07 left in the second, Forsberg picked up his second between-the-legs, backhanded shot on goal, which also was stopped by Smith.
