Unsurprisingly, Aidy Bryant has been having a good season on SNL, still riding the success of her Hulu show, Shrill. This week she got to shine without the benefit of an on-camera wardrobe disaster, and she did it with host and musical guest Harry Styles.
In last night's first filmed sketch, Bryant starred as Joan, an extremely upbeat woman living alone with the love of her life, an elderly Chihuahua named Doug. The first part of the song is a toy piano-backed bit about how great Joan's life is with Doug, who passively fulfills the role of a perfect boyfriend. Things take a super weird turn when Doug turns human, played by Harry Styles but still wearing Doug's sweater and dog collar, which, honestly, he pulls off. The video abruptly pivots, with Styles doing an almost David Bowie-like impression and the two of them running through what looks like the set for the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" music video.
It's not a surprise that Harry Styles can make dog-wear look good. What makes the whole package work it that it's oddly... sweet?
